Literature Review Requirements
The literature review is a critical component to the
student’s research project. Students are required to specifically address six
separate topics during the construction of the literature review. Each of the
six sections of the paper should contain a separate sub-title as listed below.
The specific research question being addressed should
be stated in its’ exact form
at the very beginning of the literature review.
Section 1:
Justification and Implication of the Study
Why did the student select this research question?
What does the student hope to better understand through this project? How might
the student grow professionally through the completion of the project? Why is
probing the implications of this research study important? What potential value
does it bring? Who would be interested in knowing and learning more about this
question? Why?
Section 2:
Current and prevailing theory
What major scholarly (peer reviewed) studies have been
completed around this topic? Include approximately 5 peer reviewed sources.
Provide a summary of their methods and findings. Why do you feel that they
provide important background information for your study? What general
perceptions prevail in general society that are stated in non-peer reviewed
sources?
Section 3:
Relevance of the Current Study to the Research Stream
How does the student’s research question compliment,
or “fit in” with the stream of research reviewed above in section 2? What
additional intelligence does the student hope to bring to this research stream?
What is specifically different
about the student’s study when compared to the studies reviewed in section 2?
Section 4: A
Detailed Overview of the Study
In this section, students will explain the research
methods to be applied in their study. If primary data is to be collected,
sample frames and the type of instrument to be used will be fully explained. If
secondary data sources are to be used, then the data source will be discussed
(per the guidelines listed in chapter 5) and the source of the secondary data will
be included in the bibliography section. The student will also provide an
overview of the analysis that is anticipated later in the project.
Section 5:
Limitations and Concerns Surrounding the Project
In this section, the student will address the limitations
of (1) their research question; and (2) their proposed method. Why might the
findings not properly compliment (or extend) the prevailing theory detailed in
section 2? What extraneous variables might impact the validity of their
measures?
Section 6:
Bibliography
A bibliography of references will be included using
APA format. All citations used in the body of the paper will also be supplied
in APA format.

"Will violent first-person shooter video
games affect young people because they may change their attitudes towards guns?"
Section 1:
Justification and Implication of the Study
The research question is selected because of
the increases in the cases of violence among young people, which seem to be
attributed to exposure to violent video games. The question seeks an answer on
whether the violent first shooter has had an effect on young people's violent
behavior (Borgman et al., 2020). This research is important profession-wise as
it helps me to foster my thinking and analytical skills, expand knowledge of
the role that exposure plays in building a character, and develop head-on
connections with classwork and real-life occurrences. The study helps in
addressing pertinent criminal issues within the community, solving practical
problems, and encouraging social diversity. The research would be helpful to
the policing department, criminal investigation department, and parents, as
they are affected by a change in community behavior.
