Question 1: What Strategies can be Used in Schools to Meet the Main Goal of the NSW DET Aboriginal Education Policy (2008)?

Education is becoming increasingly necessary, considering that students have to gain the right skill-set to survive in the current economic conditions. Owing to this fact, curriculum development in different parts of the world have taken a leading role in incorporating traditional aspects to ensure students are taught content that they can relate with. The idea of aboriginal education emanated from the colonial period due to the interaction of culturally different teaching approaches and materials which most native students could not relate with. Education in the 21st century requires that students are equipped with creative, collaborative, imaginative, modern, and problem-solving skills. The main goal of the NSW DET Aboriginal Education Policy (2008) was to assist schools in accelerating improvement towards the educational quality and outcomes of the Aboriginal Students. To achieve the said goal, recognizing diversity, creating critical connections, and decolonizing the education system should be adopted as the primary strategies.

The first of these approaches, recognizing diversity, requires that a classroom be considered and treated as diverse. Students have different learning capabilities, and educators can aid in the achievement of the NSW DET Aboriginal Education Policy (2008) by concentrating on individual student's strengths and helping them to overcome their weaknesses. "All educators need to recognize the Eurocentric ideologies that have shaped educational curricula and therefore their students and recognize very different and legitimate ways of knowing and doing that are not now a typical part of the educational process" (Battiste 2005, p.13). While most Aboriginal students tend to respond positively to non-traditional class content, the fact is that to maintain a high level of education quality; learners must be exposed to a learning system that they can effectively relate to. For example, education is the basis for the success of cultures, hence the need to identify the difference of culture for each student, both Aboriginal, and new entrants.

The role of culture in identifying learning needs and differences towards the achievement of the NSW DET Aboriginal Education Policy (2008) is indisputable. For example, the framework for education in the native communities is primarily anchored on the transgenerational transfer of knowledge and cultural orientations. The transmission of these ways of life is essential in determining how effective the objective of the NSW DET will be accomplished. According to Harrison & Sellwood (2016), traditional education was well packaged and transferred to offspring, but the onset of the European invasion, all socio-cultural ideologies were disrupted. Rather than acknowledging the existence of learning disparity, the Europeans introduced a totally new system that failed to consider inclusivity, hence disrupting the education of Aboriginal communities (Harrison, 2011). To remedy this inefficiency and promote the goal of the NSW DET, every community's way of life and knowledge must be considered essential.

The second strategy towards meeting the goals of NSW DET is by...
