I examined Germany for its policy on narcotics. The Federal Narcotic Act does not mention the consumption of drugs as an offense. Unauthorized purchase and possession of a drug is a criminal offense punishable by about five year's imprisonment. German has advantages to its system, the law employs other alternatives to prosecution in cases of small volumes of Narcotic drug for own consumption. The option taken is determined by the quantity and type of drug involved. According to the Act, an individual possessing a drug ranging between 6-10g is subject to treatment rather than jail punishment. The quantity consideration applies to cocaine, heroin, and amphetamine.  Cultivation, manufacture, and supply of illicit substance attract a penalty of between 5-15 years depending on whether the offender is a gang member or possess weapons.
