Abstract

The Research, theory and the policy of human resource in an organization have been evolving for over the last two centuries and witnessed a significant transformation in term of function and scope within the last few decades. Driven by a couple of external and internal factors, human resource function has moved from simple maintenance function, with minimal bottom line effect, to what has been considered to be a sustainable competitive advantage in the operations within a global market. In the dynamic global economy, human resource is the major internal factor that determines the company’s brand image, sales proceeds, and consequently the overall future positioning in the international markets.

The paper presents the major elements which are fundamental to human resource policing in a food company in the United States under food and service industry.  The paper also highlights the significant policies that are used by the Publix Company and how such systems make Publix a good environment to work in.
