Zero Tolerance Sexual Harassment Policies

INSTRUCTIONS:

Discussion Topic:  Since the #MeToo movement, the perception of sexual harassment has changed with the expectation that organizations must respond quickly and decisively to any allegations of sexual harassment.  One aspect of that movement is the idea of adopting “zero tolerance” sexual harassment policies.  The perception of “zero tolerance” policies is that any sexual harassment infraction will lead to termination.  Do some research on “zero tolerance” harassment policies and post a comment about your viewpoints (backed by evidence and sources).  Some suggested areas for discussion:   What is defined as “zero tolerance” and how might an organization implement these policies? What types of harassment should be included in the idea of “zero tolerance?” Could a true “zero tolerance” policy, in which employees are terminated for minor infractions, affect employees’ willingness to file a complaint for sexual harassment? If an employee is found responsible for less egregious sexual harassment and is not terminated, how should the employee be managed going forward? What needs to be considered in developing employee training if an organization adopts “zero tolerance?” What is the relationship between the concept of due process and “zero tolerance?” Require for essay: Try to only develop one idea per post to facilitate the development of threads.   Style Although you may have experience using this type of communication through texting or Facebook, your posts should be composed of complete and grammatically accurate sentences (no abbreviations please). Avoid writing in all caps (all caps = yelling).   Tone & Etiquette Although it is perfectly fine, even recommended, to challenge your classmates’ posts and defend your opinions, you’re expected to do so in respectful and polite manner. Always use proper etiquette (proper language, typing, etc.) Express your ideas clearly to avoid misunderstanding, give people the benefit of the doubt.Over 90% of human interactions are non-verbal.  We convey meaning and intention via body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, etc. The lack of nonverbal cues can create misunderstandings as to the tone of your post.
