920-9/27: “Age, Race, Class and Sex: Women Redefining Difference”
The
article by Audre Lorde converged on the issues that redefine women in our
societies. The aspects of age, race, class, and sex have been deliberated and
how such parameters lead human beings to perceive each other differently. A
discussion of racism is brought out as a sophisticated perspective of an
inherent superiority of one race over all others and thereby the right to
dominance (pp. 115). Audre Lorde argument is an evidence of lack of coexistence
and tolerance of each other. For example, in my community, white communities
did not use to interact freely with the African-Americans until in the recent
past when the gap between races has started closing.
I believe that the difference between us does not necessarily mean one of us is inferior. Every woman deserves a chance to showcase her talents without being perceived as less capable. Therefore, refusing to recognize difference makes it impossible to see the various problems and pitfalls facing us as women (pp. 118).
