The film, "Feminists: What Were They Thinking" discusses most of the contentious issues such as identity, abortion, race, childhood, and motherhood concerning feminism. Through a candid and riveting inquiry from different women who have had a significant share of feminism in different setups, the film address how women are shedding the cultural restrictions of their childhoods and embracing their full humanity.

Jane Fonda is among the activists who have been interviewed in the film and helps in bringing out the roles, expectations, and challenges that female activates undergo in the pursuit of gender equality. Fonda was born in the year 1937 in New York in the United States. In her life, she has played various social roles such as being a political activist, feminist, writer, and actress. Her commitment has gained her several awards in the national and international scope. She is the recipient of various accolades such as the two Academy Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, two BAFTA Awards, the AFI Life Achievement Award, four Golden Globe Awards, and the Honorary Golden Lion.
