Throughout
the coronavirus pandemic, media and precisely televisions stations have played significantly
in the dissemination of information. There has been a lot of misinformation and
disinformation on coronavirus pandemic statistics and other misconceptions on
its treatment and its mode of transmission. Different cable networks have
different approaches to their news delivery. There are three mainstream news
networks, and they are CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News, all with different approaches
to their broadcasting (Muddiman et
al.). These different mainstreams vary in their use of language and
factual claims.
There
is a growing tendency of Fox News to mention Democrats while MSNBC is likely to
mention the Republicans (Scopelliti et al., 1879). This shows that the media
houses have some traits of playing politics in the fight against the
coronavirus pandemic. This is also a depiction that there are people with
organizational preferences in the presentations and interviews. There is also a
similarity between Fox News and MSNBC dedicating more of their time to partisan
politics than to health personnel and organizations. In the video, “Dire U.S. COVID-19 Death Rate Seen in Graph
Excluding NY, NJ, CT, Rachel Maddow appears to be more focused on her
briefing on the response of President Trump, who says that the fatalities
nationwide have fallen by 75 percent in mid-April and says that the number is
significantly improving. This claims that CNN, unlike the other mainstream television
stations have a lot of reference on medics and other health organizations. In
the case of a video, "This Country's
Covid-19 Death Rate is World's Highest,” the briefing entirely engages
medical doctors while tackling the case of the rising cases of Covid-19
globally, but with special interest on Portugal’s situation in Lisbon and
Porto.
There is another disparity between CNN and Fox News. Fox News is inclined towards business and economy and how they are impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic, but CNN is more inclined on prevention of the transmission or the spread of the virus.
