You might think that social problems only affect those who suffer from the problem directly, but they actually have much broader impact. For example, the public education system shapes the educational experiences of those who are not a part of the private school system. The government provides policies and procedures necessary to develop the public education system and make recommendations on ways to engage youth. If the system does not adhere to these policies or engage the youth effectively, we may be faced with a population of adults that have not received an adequate education. Social problems, if unchecked, may affect a large number of people in the society. As a social worker, you should be keen in discerning social problems and addressing them.
For this
Assignment, you will identify a
problem that affects populations that social workers serve. Some examples of
social problems include poverty, child welfare/abuse, and homelessness.

Homelessness
in the United States
Homelessness
is one of the main issues that people across the world contain to experience.
This essay particularly discusses street people and families, mostly during
this period that the ongoing pandemic has destabilized financial abilities.
Benjaminsen & Andrade (2015) perceive homelessness as a situation where
people are unable to afford shelter, leading to a life on the street. As noted
by Benjaminsen & Andrade (2015), most of the street families also lack the
ability to afford other basic needs such as food, clothing, medication, and
even education for their children. Homelessness in the United States is caused
by many factors, one of them being lack of employment among young people. Fresh
graduates and young families are likely to plunge into destitution faster than
an older generation that has saved substantially. The second cause of homeless
in American is the high cost of accommodation. According to a report published
by the U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
(2020), the cost of owning a house in the United States was averaged at
$1650,000 in 20000. 20 years later, the cost has doubled to about $330,000 for
an average-sized house. The amount of rent payable per month has also
skyrocketed, increasing the level of homelessness.
By
the end of 2019, about 553,742 registered homeless people who the United States
government has been tracking to offer social support (United States Interagency
Council on Homelessness, 2019). However, according to Perri, Dosani, and Hwang
(2020), the situation has worsened because close to 800,000 people in the
United States could be homeless due to decreased disposable income following
the current outbreak pandemic. The prevalence of homelessness entails males
(343, 187), Female (219,911), transgender (3,255), and over 1,000 who identify
as non-gender conforming. On the basis of race, the white account to the
highest prevalence at 270,607, black come second at 225,735, Hispanic/Latinx
come third at 124,615, Multiracial (36,868) while Native American, Pacific
Islander, and Asians accounts to 17,966, 9,311 and 7228 respectively (National
Alliance to End Homelessness, 2020).
Different reports and statistics show that no specific population is affected by homeless in the United States; for example, the information above shows that both...
