Decision Making
When faced with an unusual circumstance, for example,
where a big number of people have voted for or against an issue it becomes
difficult to make a decision. When on jury duty, 11 of my colleagues were in
concession while I was the odd one out since I was not entirely convinced on
the guilty status of the accused. I felt that I was not sure whether the
defendant was guilty or innocent. I realized that using positive psychology I
could analyze both the positive and negative side of my stand point.
Standing on my ground was appropriate as it helped me
to foster my positive emotions including contentment with the future prospects.
According to Lomas and Ivtzan (2016), positive emotions refer to the
elimination of negativity such as self-doubt in a decision. Not supporting the
decision of my colleagues evoked the feeling of joy and contentment as I stood
by what I was convinced was the right call. I felt relieved and enhanced my
positive emotions since I did not vote in favor of innocence or conviction
given that I was not sure if the defendant committed the crime or not.
