Description:
1. Read the title of the article and the key words (listed under the heading Article Info) and speculate what you think the research is about.
2. Read the abstract and identify at least one of the outcomes or dependent variables that the researchers are trying to examine. (Hint: What are the authors exploring?) 3. Describe the sample of people selected to study.
4. Read the Introduction section. What do the authors say about how their research builds or expands on previous research?
5.Read the section labeled 2. Methods. You described the sample in your answer to question 3. Now tell me how the sample of people to study was selected. There are 2 parts to this selection process.
6. Did the researchers have a list of names from which to select this sample? 7. Where did the list come from?
8. How was the data on drinking collected?
9. When was the data collected? Your answer needs to describe more than just the years covered.
10. Read the section labeled 4. Discussion. What limitations do the researchers point out about the way that the data was collected?
11. Pick one of those limitations and explain why it might impact the results of the study.
12. What do the researchers suggest that future research focus on?

What the research is about

After reading the title of the article, I speculate that the study will focus on investigating the behaviors exhibited by students during drink parties. I feel that the authors will present the differences in the behaviors displayed during such parties based on the status of the students, for example, the party attendee and the host. Besides, I believe that the research will investigate the influence of the party-location on the party related behavior of both party attendees and hosts.

Dependent variables

The authors are exploring how the behavior displayed by college students during drink parties is influenced by the difference in the hosts-status and party location. Therefore, the dependent variable is the party drinking-related behavior exhibited by the college students while the independent variables include the party-location and host status.

Description of the selected sample of people
