About Stimulants Drug Category

Stimulants drugs entail an extensive range of applications; this also translates to diverse implications on users. Stimulants are used to increased human activeness or alertness. Major drugs in this category are; Vyvanse, Vyvanse, Focalin, Adzenys XR-ODT, Methylin, among others (Galanter, Kleber, & Brady).

The history of stimulants can be traced back to 1887. The stimulant drug was called amphetamine. It only became widely used around 1930 due to increased demand for the medication of fatigue and depression. However, in 1950, it was temporarily banned due to excessive abuse by people.  In 1971, Substance Act was enacted, leading to the controlled sale and use. Over time, new regulations controlling the use of stimulants have been suggested and enacted (Conti & Johanson).

Different categories of stimulants have many 'slangs' as a way of concealing the actual products when buying or using. Key street names are ‘Sleeping Pill,’ 'Candy,' 'Date Rape Drug,' 'Mind Eraser,' 'Eggs,' 'Aya,' 'Dimitri,' among many others. The application of these names varies from one city to another.

Stimulants can exist in different forms. The most common ones are powder, crystals, liquid, as well as tablets. A large number of these drugs will also differ in how they are packaged. For example, prescription stimulants are likely to be well packaged because they are legal and required a specific medication purpose. On the other hand, those sold on the streets are usually wrapped in a nylon paper or sachet. The primary color of almost all stimulants available on the roads is white.  That means it is quite difficult for a person who has no idea about different stimulants to identify them.

Different ingestion methods are application, and none is predominantly above others. These ingestion methods are; swallowing tablets or capsule, inhaling powder (for example, in the case of Cocaine), injection, as well as mixing with drinks and foods.
