Written Communication
Communication is at
the core of success for any field of work; nursing is no exception. Effective
communication is essential for patient outcomes, interdisciplinary
collaboration, and satisfaction for all healthcare professionals involved with
patients, families, and colleagues (Afriyie, 2020). I possess average writing
ability but understand its significance for improving service to my patients
and colleagues. In my nursing career, I have recognized the importance of
written communication. While studying nursing, I was exposed to numerous
writing projects such as progress notes, patient education materials, and care
plans requiring written communication skills such as organizing information
efficiently while conveying empathy towards diverse patient backgrounds while
effectively communicating. As soon as I began clinical practice, it became

healthcare providers to collaborate more efficiently while ensuring patients
receive safe care, ensuring optimal care coordination and coordination between
providers. I am an adept writer, but I know my skills can continually be

feedback, and continued learning, I plan to further my communication abilities
in nursing.

often resulted in confusion or misinterpretations of what was intended for me
when speaking or writing about medical topics. I have sought resources and
support to hone my craft to overcome my writing challenges. These have included
attending grammar/syntax workshops and consulting colleagues/mentors who review
my writing for constructive feedback.
Furthermore, I read professional publications, such as nursing journals, that feature engaging prose I can learn from. As I continue to develop my writing skills, I recognize the significance of seeking feedback and continually learning and improving. Written communication in nursing...
