Writing Assignment 4: Analysis of Article Bottom billion by Collier (2008)

The author's point of view is that the bottom billion cannot be helped through aids. This postulation may seem contradictory, but it is surely true that to help someone, one needs to be taught how to survive with necessary having to lean of the donor. The case of developing countries becomes more complicated because they are most likely to spend money to fulfill personal interests, rather than accomplish what they were envisioned to. For example, in his illustration, the author indicates that grants and aids, “which basically means that the donors give the government the money and it spends it on whatever it chooses as if it were its tax revenue” (Collier, 2008, p. 101), is the worse form of helping financially struggling nations.
