Case Study Questions: Walmart, the Main Merchant of Doom

Q1: Major issues in this case

The case study's main issue is the company's unwillingness to structure more human and considerate protocols of treating and reimbursing employees. The case study discusses "The Walmart Way" expression stringent measures that the business had always taken to ensure employees do not have much power over Walmart's managers' decisions. The case further identifies the issue of "Plant Walmart," a notion created to portray Walmart as extremely powerful and has a high impact on Americans' lives. This poses an issue in Walmart's business operation because critics may feel that it has been allowed to operate as a monopoly. The notion of Walmartization also affects its social and environmental stewardship endeavors (Christopherson, 2001).

Q2: Assessing Walmart’s CRS using Four-parts CSR Model

However, some glimpses of ethical challenges exist in dealing with employees’ wages. The company has been philanthropically responsible. For example, the case study indicates that in 2014 alone, Walmart gave “$1.4 billion in cash and in-kind contribution” (p. 616 of the case study). The company is also in the front line in fighting hunger in America.

Q3: Walmarts impact on communities

It is true that the establishment of Walmart in part of the United States, and the country at large, has an impact on communication. It has a responsibility to ensure communication fabrics and cultures are preserved. For example, the company should manage over congestion, ensure stores have wide parking spaces, and ensure people living within its neighborhood are not inconvenienced by...
