Unpacking Arguments for Animal Rights and Identity

Just like human being, other animals possess an identity and therefore are entitled to rights. Thus, non-human animals have the right to live and protection against suffering. According to Regan (pp.12), suffering harms animals. Proponents have argued that non-human animals should be entitled to the same treatment and consideration accorded to human beings. They support the idea that non-human animals should not be regarded as property and used research subjects as well as a source of entertainment. Different cultural renditions across the world, for example Hinduism, advocate for non-human animal rights. There are several arguments presented below that highlight the need for non-human animals to be entitled to rights.

Firstly, non-human animals just like human beings also experience suffering. This argument aid in the conclusion, non-human animals' possess ethical rights. Ethical values argue against suffering. This has been supported by biological studies that prove some resemblance between the non-human animals nervous system with that of human beings.
