Abstract
The study aimed to investigate how disruptive
innovation theory can be applied to small and micro enterprises in China. The
study has considered the dynamic nature of the business environment mostly on
the developed regions and conditions which are predominant to enhance the
application of the disruptive innovation. Specifically, the study has
deliberated on determining the influence of access to finances on the
implementation of disruptive innovation. Besides an investigation of the impact
of business laws and regulation and internal expertise on the application of
disruptive innovation has been deliberated on in the study. Finally, the
research aimed to investigate the effect of strategic support on the
application of disruptive innovation. To fructify the objectives of the study,
the researcher used a qualitative study design to examine how SMEs in China may
apply disruptive innovation within their operations. However, due to the
financial and time constraints, the researcher used a random sampling technique
to identity population with similar characteristics which resulted in a sample
size of 218 small and micro enterprises. The results of the study revealed that
access to finance is a critical aspect regarding the application of disruptive
innovation in SMEs in China. As a result, this findings concurred with previous
studies that business investors and lenders have a role to play in enhancing
the sustainable competitiveness of SMEs. Besides, Legal issues surrounding business
operations play a critical part in enabling the business to compete with huge
multinational players in the same market environment. Furthermore, strategic
support and internal capability of the employees go hand-in-hand in instilling
success in the application of disruptive innovation by SMEs.
