Exchange Theory
This theory suggests that social
behavior results from shared exchanges between different people. Social
exchange ideals are common in a corporate environment because they explain and
analyze interactive relationships. According to Jakobsen and Andersen (2013),
social exchange theory suggests that people focus on the significance of social
relations. If the risks of a relationship outweigh the benefits, then it can be
terminated or reconfigured. This theory relates to gendered communication because
individuals only share knowledge if they expect a positive outcome (Jakobsen
& Andersen, 2013). People prefer an interactive exchange that attracts
social approval, and, when appropriate, they select options that draw the least
social disapproval. Cropanzano et al. (2016) opine that the theory of social
exchange indicates that cross-cultural perspectives affect knowledge sharing
because every culture has a unique way of gender communication. For example,
this theory highlights that the ability to share knowledge in an organization depends
on how people perceive the importance of interpersonal relations. Social
exchange theory explains how gender communication influences knowledge sharing.
Social Capital Theory
The
ideas of social capital theory reveal that human interactions rely On trust.
Social capital resides in interactive exchanges at both individual and community
levels to support productive activities. Sen and Cowley (2013) explain that
social capital highlights the principle that trust is helpful. Social capital theory
relates to trust in management because it describes the role of effective structural
relations on knowledge sharing. Trust is essential in management since it builds
the employer-employee associations that influence personal relationships and
assist in knowledge sharing (Rouxel et al., 2014). For that reason, the
presence of trust in management supports the exchange of knowledge and
facilitates collective interactions for mutual benefits. In the argument
presented by Rouxel et al. (2014), belief in management assists in the
acquisition and sharing of knowledge. Trust in an organization improves information
distribution as collaborating employees can interact and learn from each other.
All these arguments propose that trust must exist in an organization to
influence an exchange of information. Trust in management supports the transfer
of implicit knowledge as it involves a relational based social exchange.
Theory of Planned Behavior
This theory predicts the chances of a person’s involvement in a particular behavior. Primarily, this model explains all actions that can be self-controlled. According to Hagger et al. (2016), the essential component of this theory is behavioral intent. Behavioral intention gets determined by the ability of behavior to result in an expected outcome and general evaluation of the significance of that outcome. Theory of planned behavior (TPB) relates to organizational citizenship behavior since it predicts and explains behaviors and purposes that influence knowledge sharing (Kuatonen et al., 2016). Organizational citizenship behavior creates a sense of determination and ensures that workers feel obliged to share information and help others meet their targets. Employees understand that their primary goal is to deliver their assigned duties, avoid troublesome behavior and support the organizational goals and objectives. Hagger et al. (2016) believes that the ability to...
