INSTRUCTIONS:

Read Ethical Perspectives of Persuasion and Box 1.3 How Often Do You Attempt to Deceive Others? in Chapter 1: The Study of Persuasion in your text (pp. 26-27). The authors of your text ask you to think about how often you are deceptive. Consider, too, the other side of the story: What would happen if you never, ever lied? In addition to reading your text, please read the article “Last word: Nothing but the truth” in which author A.J. Jacobs tries giving voice to his every stray thought: The last word: Nothing but the truth.....

After reading your text and the article, please write one-page (250-300 words) and in your own words about your reaction to the Radical Honesty article and how – and whether – you should use it in your life. Do not use any outside sources except for your textbook and the Last Word article.

The Study of Persuasion

The article, the last word: Nothing but the truth by Jacobs (2009) explains how agents of truth can positively change the world for their own good and others' goodness. The article persuades us to focus on telling the truth even when we think the news might upset the recipient. Jacobs learns the significance of telling the truth from Blanton, and he decides to experiment with it in real-life situations. When he explained to Jacob the importance of being honest, he felt it was simple to apply, but in the real world, it is challenging if you expect a positive outcome.
