The
smoking Age is justifiable at 21
The
smoking age is among the most controversial issues in the United States and the
world at large. The current move to increase the smoking age to 21 is justified
considering the detrimental impact smoking has on human health. However, a
disclaimer is that the effects of smoking are not selective of age; even a 30
years old person can be affected by smoking, but the move towards increasing
smoking age is aimed at ensuring newbie smokers understand what they are doing.
First,
raising the smoking age to 21 years ensure smokers are capable of making
informed decisions. According to Beitler
et al. (2019), the liberty to smoke can easily be misused by youngsters, hence
the need for setting an age when they have fully developed decision-making
abilities.
