INSTRUCTIONS:
Prompt: In the Mexican account of Cortes’ conquest, the observer notes, “Their dogs are enormous, with flat ears and long, dangling tongues. The color of their eyes is a burning yellow; their eyes flash fire and shoot off sparks. Their bellies are hollow, their flanks long and narrow. They are tireless and very powerful. They bound here and there, panting, with their tongues hanging out. And they are spotted like an ocelot.” (Mexica/Tlaxcala PDF p. 5) The quote demonstrates an incomplete understanding of the unknown. The Mexican observer knew the creatures were dogs but was unsure as to how to understand the differences he saw. Use the Mexican/Tlaxcalan accounts, Cabeza de Vaca’s narrative, and Montaigne’s essays to make an argument about how one should engage with the unknown. Note: There should be an argument as to why those mistakes are made. Montaigne is particularly useful for that. * The essay should be 6 pages long (double-spaced) and should include direct pieces of textual evidence. * Format should be -Intro(with thesis) -body 1 -body 2 -body 3 -conclusion *****PLEASE GIVE TWO FILES. ONE WITH OUTLINES WITH THESIS, BODY 1,2,3, AND CONCLUSION (this is just for checking if I like thesis and contents. So, it’s considered part of my order, not extra). THE OTHER IS FINAL ESSAY ONE. ****** * Need at least one counterargument * Use correct * A counterargument and response is required. The counterargument should engage one of YOUR arguments in the essay and present a potential problem a reader may have with it. The counterargument should NOT simply be another way to approach the prompt. * Do not use outside sources in the essay which means ONLY cite form the assigned books. The argument should be your own and the only material used should be two books which are - "Mexica (Aztec) & Tlaxcala Accounts of the Spanish Conquest, 1500s" - Michel de Montaigne - Essays - “On the Cannibals,” “On cruelty,” “On three kinds of social intercourse,” “On Experience” - ISBN 9780140446029 - Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca - Chronicle of the Narvaez Expedition - ISBN 978-0142437070
