The Ending of the Short Story, The Lady, Or The Tiger

"The Lady, or the Tiger?" is a widely anthologized short story by Frank R. Stockton that was initially published in 1882 in the magazine, The Century. Readers can guess who is behind the enigmatic door at the end of the short story: the lady or the tiger. People have differing viewpoints on the conclusion, so I wanted to write my own. Have fun!

He walked up to the right-hand door and opened it without pausing for a second. As he pushed open the door, he grunted and took a step back, covering his eyes as the sun's rays reflected off his face. He cautiously made his way to the flaw of dusk that would seal his destiny, and the crowd held their breath. As he gazed into the dimly lit room, his eyes widened softly, and the audience shifted frontward in their chairs, anticipating to catch a sight of what might be on the other side....
