Taming the Anger Monster by Anne Davidson

INSTRUCTIONS:

Read Chapter 12: “Taming the Anger Monster by Anne Davidson, and discuss what the three causes of anger are and what examples the author uses to support those points (150-200 words). Respond to two classmates Please respond to "Markus Contreras" with your opinion.   The author focuses on three causes of anger. Time, technology, and tension. First form of anger she talks about is road rage, a form of out of control rage. Living in Miami, I've  witnessed road-rage many times. It is a form of anger that has to do with time. The author explains how Americans live a busier schedule than other industrial countries. Apart from working significantly more than other countries, it is common to see Americans stay busy at home. Some might be in extracurricular activities, help their kids in homework, or take the kids to play sports. Often times having a busy schedule leads to lack of sleep. Not being able to sleep the required amount, one tends to become more irritable or cranky. Another factor that influences anger is technology. The author describes how Americans tend to "fall behind" with the trend of technology. She describes that people that fall behind feel as if they are not good enough. She gives examples how people are stressed about their cell-phones not having the best camera, best speaker, and fastest internet. In reality, cell phones were created for making phone calls and sending text messages. Every other feature is just a luxury. Last form of anger the author talks about is tension. She explains it as a reserve of anger due to our surroundings. Not getting along with your boss can cause a lot of frustration. As well as relationship issues can cause a lot of stress at home. Also, just day to day challenges. Please respond to " Camila Silva Villarrubia" with your opinion.  The author starts discussing how according to Sybil Evans, a conflict-resolution expert in New York City, there are three causes of anger, which are: time, technology, and tension. He starts by explaining time, how Americans work longer hours and are rewarded with less vacation time than people in industries in other countries. He later adds on how long commute hours, community duties, children and catching up with sleep makes hard for the Americans to get enough rest and not get cranky that later leads to anger and conflict.  The author later starts explaining how technology also plays a big role on the bad behavior in anger problems. He talks about how cell phone use, social media and trying to keep up with the fast-changing technology can get frustrating and lead to anger fits that can end up with punching, kicking and throwing the device.  Lastly, he explains how tension can be the combination between lack of time and the pressure of technology. According to the reading, people in society simply feel inadequate and stupid when confronted with the demands of modern life. Other causes of tension can be caused by the bombarding of continues stress cause by the terrorist attacks, global warming, and antibiotic resistant diseases.
