Why
Do People fear Change?
Change is
inevitable; unfortunately, many people do not like the idea of change.
Introducing change in people's lives is quickly opposed, even when people do
not have justified reasons for opposing it. This culminates in fear of chance.
However, there are many speculations as to why people fear changes; some are
due to uncertainty, the comfort of the current situation, and the cost that
comes with introducing a new idea.
First, people fear
change due to increased uncertainty of the future. Introducing a new idea to
people can be complicated, mainly when there is no evidence that the change
will positively impact their lives. For example, in Bronte's book, Eliza Reed
is enslaved to a rigid routine and commits to religion because that was the
only way she perceived life would be good.
Secondly, people
fear change because of their current comfort status. Introducing change
destabilizes many things; that is why people fear being denied the comfort they
are used to. Change has one key quality of making things different from what
they are used to be; this is evident through Bronte's Jane Eyre, in that
shifting to different places made many characters in the book uncomfortable.
