Students will choose a specific population and do a literature review of substance abuse treatment concerns with that population.  Population characteristics may include: age, sexual orientation, sex and/or gender, disabilities, veterans, racial/ethnic groups, socioeconomic status, religious groups, military/veteran status, or other groups (e.g., gamers/gaming, sexual interests/fetishes, “geek culture,” etc.).  Choose a cultural group that interests you.  The paper should include: 1) review of what the literature says about substance abuse within that population (or within similar populations – and how that information might generalize to your group of interest-- if there is no literature about that group), 2) any relevant cultural factors of that population that may help or hinder treatment, and 3) ideas for future research and substance abuse treatment considerations.  The paper should be approximately 5 pages (no more than 6 pages and no less than 4 pages), written in APA style, and have a minimum of 5 peer-reviewed sources.
