Amancio Ortega founded Zara in 1975. The company has expanded considerably
because currently, it has a global presence with operations in 97 countries
while running 2250 retail stores leading to the company reporting over $13
billion sales in 2012 (Carlyle, 2013). The company enjoys a competitive
advantage over rivals because of its supply chain strategies help it to produce
over 450 million items annually efficiently. Even so, the competitiveness of
Zara remains vulnerable to the external environment despite rivals finding it
difficult to imitate the company’s supply chain capabilities.
