INSTRUCTIONS:
PROMPT: Identify and analyze the primary arguments and historical evidence from Peter Wood’s “Strange New Land, 1619-1776” which you can find in Chapter 2 of Robin D.G. Kelley and Earl Lewis, eds., To Make Our World Anew: A History of African Americans to 1880 (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2000). Be sure to include specific examples from the reading to support your own analysis of the history presented in Peter Wood’s chapter. See below for specific details. In your paper, you must include: -At least 3 direct quotes from the author. Be sure to properly cite these in order to avoid plagiarism. See the details below for using Chicago style footnotes. Try to use quotes that are profound or things that would be hard to say in your own words. Straightforward facts would not be good choices for direct quotes. Avoid lengthy quotes and do not use too many (in general, more than one direct quote per paragraph can be too much).-At least five specific pieces of historical evidence. Basically, this means you should cite at least five facts from the reading. Keep in mind that five is the bare minimum, and most quality papers would have many more.-Your own analysis based on the facts and the author’s interpretations. This is where you demonstrate your understanding of the significance of the historical events. It is also where you show an understanding of things such as differences over time and in different places/empires.-Your paper should be 900-1300 words (approximately 4-6 double-spaced pages). It should be double-spaced with Times New Roman, 12-point font. You should have a title and subtitle that suggests both the topic and your argument/thesis (or at least what makes your paper unique). Your title should not be something like “History Paper”
