Socialization is the process through
which individuals learn their culture and become accepted members of their
society. We are all born genetically as humans; however, sociologists argue
that we have to be taught to behave like humans. In other words, what would be
described as human behaviors are not necessarily instinctual. Rather, we learn
to assimilate into the society around us through the process of socialization.
Just how important is this process, and what would happen if a person was

Socialization
Most
people are exposed to socialization agents such as school, peer group, family
and mass media which manipulate their culture and norms. Socialization process is a crucial aspect of
life as it provides an avenue through which people learn the language and
fundamental of culture, and acquire a personality. Feral children are the ones
who are have lacked adequate human interaction and therefore, will reveal
mental impairment, lack of social skills, physical problem and little language
development as opposed to nurtured children.
First,
the family is one of the socialization agents to which people are exposed as
they grow. The family members play a central role in providing the first system
of norms and beliefs to the child. Second, school is another agent through
which students learn formal curricula such as writing, reading, and arithmetic.
Third, through Peers our preference and choice of things like which types of
clothes to wear, kind of music to listen to among others are greatly influenced.
Lastly, social media such as magazines, movies, television shows, and the web
site is another socialization agent which helps in manipulating our taste in
popular music, favorite color, beliefs and other practices (Knight, G 2011).
Socialization
allows people to learn about what is expected from them, learn the language of
their culture and the role they should play in life. Through the socialization people
living in a given community develop similar beliefs, values, and norm. In the
early stages, children interact mostly with family members from which they
learn most of the things. Children imitate what the people around them are
doing such as talking, walking and hence personality and relationship between
people the child is developed. Additionally, the behavior and character of a
person is mostly influenced by the kind of social life one is exposed. For
instance, if a person was brought up in a social setting where football is the
favorite game, he/she would develop such interest too (Knight, G 2011).
