Social Media Use and Narcissistic Behaviour among Young Adult Facebook Users
Social Media Use and Narcissistic Behaviour among Young Adult Facebook Users
Research Puzzle
Social media sites have become a significant part of many individuals around the globe. Young adults have been found to spend excessive amounts of time on social networking sites making them susceptible to cyberbullying, antisocial behavior, and addiction (Andreassen, Pallesen, & Griffiths, 2017). Social networks have been connected to various uses and gratifications such as entertainment, communication, and meet new people (Andreassen, Pallesen, & Griffiths, 2017). Many factors have been related to the use of social media, but narcissism remains an interesting yet majorly ignored predictor. Bergman, Fearrington, Davenport, and Bergman (2011) note that a large number of the millennial peer groups are more narcissistic than earlier generations. The increase in narcissistic behavior has correlated with the increase in social media (Bergman et al., 2011). Does the usage of social networks enhance narcissistic actions? Through the use of one of the famous social networking sites (Facebook), the proposed research will investigate any connection concerning social media usage and increased narcissistic behavior among young adult Facebook users.
