would like to consider a social issue that is easy for both of us. I
would like the topic to be gay marriage. Critical things to remember with this
assignment is my support is mixed. On a personal and sad note, my oldest son is
gay and my youngest son is gay. My oldest son recently married briefly in a
same-sex marriage. The talented quickly because his spouse was deceptive
about his intent to get a green card then divorce. I also have mixed views
because I want a granddaughter and it is heartwrenching to see the dim possibility.
On the other hand, I am torn between supporting my sons and what I feel in the

of social justice can be experienced in the society[1]. Indeed it is uncivilized
for human societies to deny the legalization of same-sex marriages, as this
contradicts the fundamentals requirements of the Constitution as well as the
civil rights. Through the civil rights, individuals are entitled to find happiness,
the illegalization of gay marriages denies the gay community the right to be
happy. It is a violation of freedom to deny gay people the chance to marry
considering it is their personal choice and way of life. It is essential to
recognize that gay couples are individuals who possess feelings of affection
for each other; thus these individuals have a right to share a matrimonial
home. The possibility of same-sex marriages has been critiqued widely; however,
there are no binding explanations for it. Through the legalization and
acceptance of gay marriages the gay community as well as the general society
benefits through the pursuance and realization of equality in marriage.
Accepting
gay marriages endorses equality and non-discrimination, it is argued that every
individual is entitled to enjoy equal rights despite sexual orientation. Most
of the societies that depict high levels of civilization do not discriminate
others by sexuality as well as the disowning of marriage rights[2]. In essence, both the
normal and gay couples, deserve the chance to enjoy the legal rights associated
with marriage. It does not matter how much the general society will try to
justify the illegalization of same-sex marriages as this practice could be
summed up as homophobia. For example, by accepting that both my sons are gay, I
am playing an important role in the fight against homophobia by supporting the
affirmation of civil rights of the minority group in the general society. It is
important that same-sex marriages are legalized so that a message of intent can
be communicated across the world that gay and straight relationships are equal.
This will be aimed at reducing prejudice and discrimination based on sexual
orientation, therefore, providing support for cultural diversity and tolerance.
Through the acceptance of same-sex marriages, the move will aid in the de-politicization of the gay rights[3]. The debate on the emancipation of gay marriages has resulted in the creation of culture wars, pitting the anti-equalities against the pro-equalities. For example, in the United States, the democratic politicians who are majorly pro-equalities have taken a significant step towards the advocacy of legalization of gay marriages. Nonetheless, it is unfortunate that the debate over gay civil rights has resulted into a political war and show of supremacy between the pro-equalities and the anti-equalities. By legalizing same-sex marriages, it will signify the urgency to de-politicize the pursuit of attaining gay equality. Therefore, this will result in an opportunity where the pro-equalities and the anti-equalities in the political class will take substantial time in dealing with urgent social issues as opposed to spending time fuelling a culture war.
