Social Goals of Schooling; Promote Alcohol and Drug Abuse Among Youth

Drawing inspiration from the chapter "Social Goals of Schooling," I feel obliged to share my personal experience that relates to the subject of "Promoting National Health: Drug and Alcohol Abuse." In the United States, it is only legal for 21-year-olds to purchase alcohol. However, after visiting China on holiday, I was surprised that even 18-year-olds could drink alcohol; besides, more disturbingly, those under this legal age could still buy liquor.

I was staying with my extended family in Guangzhou province when my cousins approached me and requested that I should join them for a night out. I quickly obliged. Upon arrival at a downtown restaurant, I was amazed that they ordered substantial meals as well as alcohol. My cousins’ actions disturbed me because back in the United States, youths are prohibited by the law from purchasing or drinking alcohol; nonetheless, I was excited I could take it finally.
