Skill Set Reflection; Intercultural Proficiency
As a friendly person, I have learned to appreciate the
importance of intercultural proficiency. As Kealey states in his work, intercultural
skill set involves cognitive, behavioral, and motivational elements that let
people adjust to global society. In my early years as a university student, I
attended a career fair in New York, where I met students from different places
of the world, leading to my understanding that multiculturalism and cultural
diversity included truths of everyday life.
While interacting with other learners, I discovered that mindfulness, motivation,
and tolerance were among the main characteristics of intercultural skill set.
I learned that tolerance was an
element of intercultural proficiency as it enabled a person to remain calm in
unclear situations. As a cognitive skill, I determined that social acceptance

of intercultural skill set since it allowed students to reflect on their
communication with others. I observed that as a conscious communicator, I
possessed high behavioral skills that enabled me to improve my interactions
with others. For instance, my social abilities ensured that I was mindful of
how other students would react to what I said to them or how I responded to
their questions. All of this evidenced my ability to adapt to interact as a
result of information I gained concerning communication frameworks. Being aware
of other peoples’ beliefs was not the only thing I learned but also the importance
of purpose.
I observed that motivation was also an essential intercultural skill set as it let learners strengthen their needs to interact and create relationships with others. As an affective component, I noticed that highly motivated students showed an interest in...
