INSTRUCTIONS:
A case study of a young woman with a chronic, progressive physical disability who is in a wheelchair and has a boyfriend that her very catholic mother does not approve of. the mom worries her daughter will be taken advantage of. the young woman is referred to a physical therapist for help with going back to school and learning to manage her disability in a college environment. the helicopter mom wants the therapist to help make her daughter more independent but is afraid at the same time. the therapist is legally and ethically required to provide holistic care and insists on helping the young woman with her family/social situation. the therapist helps the young woman advocate for herself and see herself as an independent and sexual being. case study is told from therapist’s perspective but very much focused on the young woman’s journey with lots of quotes.
