Media
play a critical role in representation and enhancing tolerance among people
from different backgrounds. The first role that media plays is to educate
people on the need for coexistence in a communicatee. This role is in
accordance with promoting peace, mainly between the people of color and
natives. Additionally, the media play the role of advocacy. Championing the
rights of the minority (based on equal health care services, employment, and
housing) is critical in enhancing representation.
Diane
Guerrero′s memoir and Junot Diaz′s fictional story both champion for the black
people by encouraging tolerance between the natives and foreigners. The idea in
both the memoir and the fiction essay is that every party within the racial
entanglement should view others with respect. In contrast, Guerrero narrates
how US immigration had abandoned their needs. “Not only had US Immigration and
Customs Enforcement been silent…” This heightens the plight of the people of
color. Diaz holds that inequality has been the most significant representation
factor between American and the black community. Some of the privileges revolve
around creating more opportunities for natives due to the perception of having
higher cultural capital.

Junot
Diaz and Issa Rae have different approaches in the way they address the plight
of the black community. Specifically, Rae postulation brings a clear
distinction between different subcategories of the people of color, an
objective that Junot Diaz can only allude to. It is due to this diversity that
both essays; “ABG Guide: Connecting with Other Blacks” and “How to Date a
Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, or Halfie” vary in their opinions. Besides,
Rae’s personal represents shifts in the perception of race in that,
traditionally, it was limited on matters of socialization, without much thought
on deeper issues related to coexistence and prosperity.
Furthermore,
Rae is more confident in elaborating on social issues, such as personality
types among the people of color. The precision in Rae’s essay helps in
confronting matters that were considered despicable in the medieval environment
between the black community. On the contrary, Diaz’s postulation seems to be
hampered by insecurities in addressing the challenges faced by the black
community.
