Question
1
Return
to the case study introduced at the beginning of the chapter. Where on the
continuum of the DMIS would you place each of the individuals: Sue Mur- ray,
John Jameson, Rebecca Reynolds, and Joyce Maples? Justify your decisions.
The Development
Mode of Intercultural Sensitivity has six distinctive continuums used to
measure the level of sensitivity to various cultures that one interacts with (Cushner, 2014). Based on the case
study, I can position the characters mentioned below.
Sue Murray. She is
at the minimization level of the DMIS model. From the case, she does not seem
to know the cultural differences between people, which will likely affect
communication and interaction. In her position, the main assumption is that
everyone communicates similarly and is shocked when people tend not to
understand her message.
John Jameson. He
best fits in the fourth level of the DMIS model. In the acceptance stage,
people can distinguish between cultures and appreciate that cultures are
different for everyone. John is willing to adapt to new changes to enhance
communication with others in his circle. For example, he likes using plain
language (English) to make it easier for everyone to understand the context.
Rebeca Reynolds.
Rebeca is in an advanced level of adaptation where she acknowledges cultural
diversity and changes her interaction and communication mannerisms to fit
different contexts. This makes her capable of communicating with people from
various cultures.
Joyce Maples. She
is in the most advanced level of DMIS mode. At the integration stage, she
understands and appreciates all cultures and is well-versed in navigating
differences between people and norms. She effectively communicates.

Jameson, Rebecca Reynolds, and Joyce Maples. As a teacher, what would you
emphasize in your response?
As a teacher, I would reply as
follows.
John Jameson-Hi, John. Think for taking some time to draft this letter. It is admirable how you want to learn and appreciate other...
