In Regimes, Pathways, Subjects,
Gilles Deleuze discusses how machines changed people's decisions, feelings, and
approaches, both at an individual and group level. Deleuze noted that the
influence of engines is not as new as many people may think. Precapitalist or
archaic institutions had robust social and rhetorical devices that promoted
subjectivities among people during the time.
Deleuze further noted that these machines could be placed in different contexts based on the contribution to have toward community perception. The view is that collective subjectivity can fit into three categories.
