1.0  Introduction

The African American community has constantly faced the challenges concerning police racial profiling; a social issue where African Americans are not treated equally due their minority status, even though they are American citizens. In principle, there are various questions regarding the African American community that need to be addressed for example, who are they, what have been their experiences since they landed on the American soil? The African American culture and history are owed to the migration of Africans; as such over 30 million African Americans are heirs to all the migrations that have established and transformed the USA. However, presently the most significant part regarding the African American community revolves around the experiences the community has faced since landing in the United States (Ryberg, 2011). Consequently, the topic of police racial profiling will reveal how the American society has fallen victim to the system that prejudges on the basis of demographic attributes thus overlooking the principle of the bill of rights.

Indeed, Warren and Farrell (2009) assert that police racial profiling is a social issue that faces the African American community, as highlighted by the various social injustices propagated against the community. It is apparent that the African American community is regarded as the minority, despite being American citizens; and so the community is fronted with issues of police prejudice and racial profiling. As a result, the community has increasingly become victims of cases to do with deaths, convictions, false arrests, and so on. The topic of police racial profiling is significant to the profession of social work, as it reveals the social injustices the African American community face at the hands of law enforcement, as the civil rights of the community are often ignored.
