For this assignment you will develop a purpose statement, central research question and sub-questions. In order to effectively accomplish this, you must start reviewing current research already conducted on the topic by briefly summarizing recent evidence (e.g., scholarly literature), indicate ways that the current literature is deficient in understanding the issue, and signify how audiences will benefit from the proposed study. The purpose statement will then focus the overall reason of the study by identifying the central phenomenon of the study, identifying the qualitative tradition, and identifying the participants and/or site for the study. The central question will essentially re-state the purpose statement in the form of a research question by applying key features of well-developed qualitative research questions (e.g., exploratory action verbs).  The central question identifies the phenomenon or driving concept in the study, identifies the qualitative tradition as well as identifies the participants and/or site for the study.  The Sub-Question component of the assignment sub-divides the central question by focusing on further analysis of the central phenomenon by probing meaning and/or addressing its component parts.
