INSTRUCTIONS:
The Qur’an discusses figures such as Jesus and Moses with much greater frequency than Muhammad. Choose at least 3 prophets other than Muhammad and discuss their depiction in the Qur’an. What does the Qur’an do with these figures? What kinds of narrative purposes do they serve? Choose from the figures recognized as prophets in the Qur’an: Adam, Noah, Idris (Enoch), Hud, Salih, Abraham, Lot, Ishmael, Elijah, Job, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Shuaib, Dhul-kifl (Ezekiel), Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Zakariya, John the Baptist, Jesus.According to some Muslim intellectuals, the Qur’an’s depiction of the Virgin Mary also qualifies her as a prophet, so she would be an option as well.
