Introduction

The rates of incarceration experienced in the United States and the large number of citizens held in the United States' prisons and jails result significantly from lawmakers' decisions and policies to increase or reduce the severity of prison sentences. A significant number of prisoners serving in the U.S prisons are connected to the illegal use of a gun by killing without a reasonable reason to committing the crime. The gun firearms sentence enhancement and adjustment of laws by the lawmakers mandate the minimum sentences for felonies committed with the use of firearms without reasonable cause of action. Many citizens are being killed by those who are licensed to own dangerous weapon(s) or gun(s), and in most cases, the killings are not justified. The purpose of this project is to support the idea that lawmakers should consider adjusting sentencing laws to people who are licensed to carry guns but kill people without a reasonable cause. The paper's objective will be achieved by identifying the problem or process, reviewing the current literature relevant to the crime problem or criminal justice process issue, and summarizing the existing policy and potential approaches to the problem or process issue. This study is purposed to illustrate the flaws that accompany the right-to-carry laws and the best recommendations to improve them and make them better.

Problem or process related to policy

The problem identified is the unreasonable killing of people without a real cause of action by those who are licensed to carry weapons like guns. Such unreasonable killings by those who are licensed to carry guns bring the topic of gun violence that is currently being a topic of debate in the United States. The process of addressing the problem is adjusting the sentencing laws to licensed people but killing people without a reasonable cause of action. The lawmakers need to adjust the sentencing laws so that the victims receive justice. Guns do not kill, but people handling guns kill using their licensed weapons (Stroud, 2020). We frequently watch breaking news of mass shootings happening across the United States. The forensic analysis leads to investigations that the guns used to commit the mass shooting are connected to some licensed individuals. The guns are either stolen or released by those who have the license to carry them.

The policy for using a gun in the country for a reasonable cause has increased gun violence in the streets, where every gun holder justifies their actions to shoot using licensed guns. Firearms homicide has become common in the United States because people of different walks of life hold unlicensed guns using licensing to hold guns. However, the killing with a weapon in the U.S is favored by the right-to-carry laws that are significant to the legal gun holders. I think law-abiding people with firearms make the surrounding community safer and ill-understood. Instead, older adults, women, men, and children are likely to be killed by gunfire from a household gun that was legally acquired with a valid license than from the illegally acquired guns. The people with licensed firearms make their actions with confidence that they have a license to use the guns. They develop a mind of ignorance that they are above the law and use their licensed guns the way they want without having a reasonable cause of action to their mischief.

Across the United States, where there is more gun use, several deaths are reported related to firearms. The United States government is licensing millions of Americans to carry hidden guns, and this can be traced from, which can be described as "concealed carry weapons," thus being a key focus of the gun lobby by many citizens in the country. We understand that these deaths that are reported in the United States are a predictable outcome of the country's lack of a political will by the lawmakers in making a change and underinvestment in preventing gun killings.

In the United States, the passing of the law that allows the right to carry a gun has contributed to increased gun violence and death cases. The lawmakers passed laws based on the idea that having more guns among licensed people leads to decreased rates of crimes. The law had no evidence of success in reducing the crime rates. The law that allowed millions of citizens to have gun licenses is considered flawed as the laws proved to have no effect on crime in some areas while it had some effects in reducing crimes in others. One of the most significant trends in firearm license in the U.S. is enacting laws by lawmakers, making it easier for United States citizens to legally carry guns in public. However, such policy is connected to severe risks to the public's health. The flaw in the policy and laws governing gun possession has resulted in failure to control the current crime trends being witnessed in the United States, especially in worship areas, public places, and homes. The notion that "more guns fewer crimes" is ill-informed because it has caused more deaths, and it indicates that the United States' laws governing firearm ownership contain some flaws that need to be adjusted by focusing on the sentencing. For example, firearms took more than 36,000 the United States lives in 2015 (Mower, 2020). The alarming statistics led to a debate where or not the United States would be in a better place if they have policies and laws that allow guns to be in possession of a few individuals or adjusting the laws regarding the sentencing of those found guilty of the unreasonable cause of action (Mower, 2020).
