This set of publications are an introduction to the basic concepts, theoretical debates, and issues related to contemporary international order. We begin by overviewing conceptualization of the world order by major models of international relations and analyzing varying interpretations of the post-Cold War international system. We continue by focusing on debates about dynamics of unipolarity and hegemonic order. We will then consider some of the key factors determining the balance between forces of order and disorder in global politics such as return of great-power competition, relative decline of American power and influence and growing challenges to the rules/ norms of Western “liberal” order. The requirement is to write a 20 page review essay providing a close critique of debates in IR literature covered in the course.
