Policymaking In The Bureaucracy

INSTRUCTIONS:

In the book by Balla, the author states that "organized interests can dominate policymaking in the bureaucracy, but only under certain conditions".  Balla  explains that organized clients can affect the Rulemaking Process  using  the  appropriate "Venues", and reccommends specific "clients" for specific combinations of Diffuse/Concentrated BENEFITS, and Difused/Concentrated COSTS. From a reputable publication, like FT, Houston Chronicle, The Economist, etc. pick an article that describes how a particular policy, law or rule-making is affected by a segment of society.  1) Identify whether the issue falls into "Interest Group Politics"; "Entrepreneurial Politics", "Client Politics" or "Majoritarian Politics".  Analyze whether the benefits and costs are Diffused or Concentrated. 2) Discuss whether the organized client is the appropriate to be effective in influencing the policy/rule/law making process (use the quadrant chart in page 132) 3) Analyze if the Venues used by the client are effective - See if Advisory Committees are involved in the process 4) State an example of how the Bureaucracy or the Legislature are using Internet and social media to facilitate this particular policy/rule/law/making process.
