Physics of Space Exploration

INSTRUCTIONS:

Physics of Space Exploration The assignment is to write an original paper describing the concept and details of a space exploration mission, examples of which are listed below. The entire paper should be typed and submitted as a work or pdf file. The paper should have depth of detail, and supporting math and physics reflecting the class content. Do not cut and paste from online sources. Make this your own work. The project should be several pages long. There is not a set length. 4 pages is too short; 15 pages is too long; it needs to fully explain your project, your goals, results, and conclusions. Requirements/considerations when selecting a topic:  Topic must be a space mission, human or robotic, for which you can find substantial information.  Location can be earth orbit, any planetary location in our solar system, any trajectory between them, the surface of any mass in our solar system (except Earth).  Can be actual historical or current project or be something conceived for the future.  use mathematical techniques from class to validate some part of basic physics and trajectories involved. Integrate the math into the paper.  There is considerable latitude in selecting a project. The concept paper due first in the semester is the opportunity to confirm you have selected a good project. Content to Include:  Research of project concept why you chose it, why it is interesting.  If your project is historical or current, describe it in detail, discuss past successes or failures. Identify what were or are the major issues and address them. How was it designed and put together? What did you learn?  If you are proposing a new mission, describe that in detail, why it should be successful, what technologies are required.  Conclusion: Assessment of result: Did it surprise you? Work as expected?  The majority of the project is expressed through writing but should show enough math to demonstrate understanding of some physical concept.
