As the admission
dates near, many people are concerned about the future of black students'
admission in the institution. There has in recent years been an improvement in
the number of black students and other minority groups in the university.
However, the number is not the stakeholders' expectations or the capacity that the
school can hold. There is still room for admitting and graduating more black
and minority students. There has been a high number of applicants, but these
successful students remain low. One of the disincentives to the success of the applicants
is the lack of financial aid that is present in several other universities for
this special group. For the university to achieve a substantial number of black
and minority group students' enrollment, many of the students from middle and low-income
families have to be provided with a financial aid program similar to the other
competing universities within Texas. Financial aiding is a very effective tool
towards ensuring the black students are enrolled in great statistics.
The university
should also seek to increase the representation of the Black Faculty within the
university. An outstanding program has worked in other institutions that can be
instrumental in solving the puzzle of the lack of black faculty in the
different fields of study. Mellon Mays, The Mellon Mays Undergraduate
Fellowship (MMUF) is a critical program that can in the long-term cure the
issues of underrepresentation in the faculty positions of tertiary education
levels. It is under the dispensation of the university to make sure that they
have a cohort of faculty of the black population.
Another problem could be solved to bring on board inclusivity in the university. There should be the recruitment and the return of people of color at the university at different levels. This could be important for the university in the future as it will attract many students to the university following the anticipation of inclusivity and tolerance to diversity. I recommend a study that could be carried on in the university to identify the key areas in the university that need more attention than others. Having efforts...
