to Shekailo (pp. 18; 2000), personal causation can be defined as a subset of
two key terms, efficacy and capacity. In this regards, therefore, a man’s
actions and the way of life is a component of the origin of his behavior.
Apparently, every individual strives to maintain the control of their behavior
that enables them to build a constituents self-knowledge. In occupation
therapy, personal causation can be viewed as the active involvement that an
individual engages in geared towards gaining experience and disposition that
can enable them to rehabilitate effectively.
The major strength of personal causation is that it allows an individual to promote their self-esteem. Shekailo (pp. 39; 2000) argues that a person with a high internal locus may be profoundly affected in case of failure. However, when an individual undertaking occupational therapy maintains an objective personal causation, they will develop sufficient resilience through self-esteem that enables them to accept failure and challenges.
