This report discusses the
organizational structure at Google Inc., determines its implementation
strategies, and explains its relevance to the business. It reviews pre-existing
literature from five academic and five non-academic sources to collect
information on the subject. Findings of this inquiry conclude that Google Inc. applies
a team-based or cross-functional approach in dealing with its diverse work
teams. To strengthen their market position, Page and Brin (Google founders) highlighted
the importance of their employees by adopting a structural model that had some
level of flatness. Having a favorable chain of command streamlines
communication and improves productivity as it eliminates number of approval
required to interact with top management teams to raise concerns or share
ideas. The report recognizes that Google Inc.'s success relies on the company
reducing middle-level management to encourage its junior employees to
communicate with its high-ranking personnel directly.
