Ordinarily
learning process is carried offline in brick-and-mortar classes. Due to
eventualities such as a pandemic, it makes such a learning system almost
impossible and necessitates online learning. Online learning is defined as the
education system in which the tutor dispenses knowledge through the internet.
In an online learning system, the teachers and learners are geographically
diverse but connected by the internet and communication Gadgets like computers.
E-learning is a resource and inclusive learning mode; however, it is very
vulnerable to background noise and system failure obstruction.
Opportunities
Online
learning is resource-efficient. For students to engage in online learning would
only require internet and garget like computers or smartphones. According to Smith & Basham (2014), costly
expenditures like building classes and buying uniforms that will be thrown away
after learning, are eliminated. Saves on transportation costs and time, which
are then utilized in other activities like medical and other development
purposes.
Online
learning is more inclusive and accessible to all. E-learning is time flexible
in that a student can opt to take it on full-time or part-time. The working
students who may not have time to attend physical class can plan their lessons
according to their working schedule (Meier, 2015). Students with a tight working schedule can receive
notes in their email, read at their convenient time, and mail their teachers
their queries.
Challenges
Online learning is vulnerable to obstructions that emanate from the immediate surrounding. E-learning is electricity and internet-dependent; hence their breakdown is always a blow to the learners.
