Objection to Immunizations of Children by American Parents

Health through immunization is essential for everyone, especially, those who do have a choice of their own, children. To enhance health, vaccination application has been named by the World Health Organization as a perfect opportunity to save lives by preventing diseases. Specifically, children need to be protected from diseases, such as tetanus, measles, poliomyelitis, among others. However, children may not enjoy the opportunity of being protected from such conditions due to different parental approaches towards immunization. According to the Center for Disease Control (2018), hesitancy to vaccine ranks among top 10 global healthcare challenges in the year 2019. CDC defines skepticism to vaccination as refusal or lack of cooperation towards taking preventative measures among commonly preventable diseases. Additionally, according to Harmsen et al. (2013), at least 20% of parents in the United States fail to take their children for vaccination for different reasons. Disease prevention is cost-effective, however, some parents’ objective immunization based on religious connotations, personal philosophies, and safety concerns.

Immunization can potentially prevent 2-3 million annual deaths. This number could be enhanced with another 1.5 million reductions in motility rate in the world if the global coverage of immunization was to improved. 50% deaths resulting from lack immunization can be attributed to remote areas; regions with no sensitization, no hospital facilities, and without enough healthcare experts to implement vaccination objectives. One of the most dangerous immunizable diseases is measles; the Unites States almost managed to eradicate death emanating from this conduction to zero. However, by 2019, the number of deaths resulting from measles had increased significantly (Calandrillo, 2004). By the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, measle rating was one of the most-fast growing outbreaks in America, mainly affecting children. Surveillance data presented by Williams et al. (2016) proves that on the onset of influenza in 2013-2014, over 27.9% minors (between 3-8 years) were not vaccinated due to various parental ideological perception on the effectiveness of immunization towards disease prevention and their children’s’ safety.
