Nurse Corps Scholarship Program

As an applicant to the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program (Nurse Corps SP), my motivations in providing healthcare to underserved communities are multidimensional and draw from my personal and professional experiences. First, growing up in low-income neighborhoods created in me an acute sense of compassion and empathy towards underserved populations; witnessing first-hand their struggles without access to healthcare motivated me to become a nurse to make a positive difference; according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), growing up in such environments can influence healthcare professionals' desire for serving such communities (AACN 2021). Accordingly, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing has determined that growing up in underserved areas influences healthcare professionals' desires to serve such populations (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2021)
