Getting started with The New York Times. 1. Start student subscription 2. Read the front page each day this week. 3. Familiarize yourself with its parts and answer the following questions-- a. Based on the front page for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week, what's the main story for the week? Think about what storylines dominate the front page. For instance, the first week of January 2020 the main story was Australia wildfires. The first week of February 2020 it was the Superbowl. For almost the entire months of March, April and May it was COVID-19. Share the main story line and a summary of the news coverage it received. 1 paragraph b. Choose an opinion piece. Read it. Name the day, columnist and title of the opinion piece that you read. Provide a brief summary of the opinion stated. (1 paragraph) c. Go to the Travel section. Find a story that you think could be PR placed (meaning a PR professional on behalf of her client pitched The Times reporter and he/she wrote an article and featured in some way the client). List the title of the article and share why you think it could be PR placed. (1 paragraph) Record your answers in the Canvas Text Box--no need for a Word Document.
